1973 Datsun 240Z
The years were 1980-1981
Oh my goodness! I found this 240Z at a pawn shop in Clute, Texas one summer afternoon. It was a huge rust hole infested carcass, but dang it was so beautiful! It had great mag wheels, awesome race car interior, a two carburetor straight six, front and rear independent suspension and a solid transmission. I was ........breathless. Got to Dad as fast as possible and did the biggest sales pitch of my life. At first, he was hesitant, worried about putting a teen in a sports car, but my big brown puppy eyes final won the day. He bought me the car and actually took the B210 back to drive to work (with all the teenager crap I did to it). Thinking back, his coworkers surly razed him about it.
Anyway, Dad helped me cut out most of the rust and fiberglass in the holes. Then I sanded the thing down close to metal and body filled the imperfections. A friends big brother oversaw my work and then shot a coat of gloss black on her. We taped it off to paint the hood and roof Gold like my dream car then (a 1980 10th Anniversary Datsun 280ZX Black and Gold Edition).
I loved playing with this beautiful car. I remember my idiotic tradition of doing doughnuts in the dirt student parking lot after school before heading to cruise the Sonic (which I still wasn't supposed to do). I Loved and drove the wheels of of this bad boy. That is, until the Urban Cowboy craze hit. Then a pick up truck started looking really good!
